SOTG 330 - Myth of the Armed Good Guy

Fortunately for one police officer, there are still armed good guys in America who are willing to help.

Despite the propaganda offered by communist rags like the USA Today and their hack writers, Good Guys with Guns do indeed save innocent lives daily in the United States.

Our SWAT Fuel Warrior of the Week segment a caller from Ohio has a question about being armed with lounging at home. Be sure that you are tuned in each and every day.

From www.breitbart.com:

On February 5, an armed citizen saved an Upper Darby police officer who was under assault and encircled by a mob of onlookers.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said “there is no doubt they would have attacked” the officer without the armed citizen’s intervention.

According to Philly.com, the officer was breaking up a fight between two Upper Darby High School students–after school had let out for the day–and one of the students jumped the officer. Superintendent Chitwood said, “As he breaks up the fight, he takes one kid and then the other jumps [on] him. Now he’s fighting two of them and he’s calling for an assist officer at the same time. There’s a crowd of 40 or 50 kids watching the fight, and they all move in towards the officer.”

An area resident with a concealed carry permit saw the officer struggling and the crowd closing in, so he grabbed his gun and ran to the officer’s defense. The resident ordered the kids to get away from the officer and kept them away until sufficient backup arrived. Chitwood said, “He had the gun in his hand, but he didn’t point it at the kids, he just told them to back off. If this guy didn’t come out and come to the aid of the officer, this officer would have had significant problems.”

The officer who was under attack suffered “significant hand injuries” and the first officer to respond to calls for backup “suffered a major injury to a leg when he was kicked by one of the teens in the fight.”

Both teens “were charged with aggravated assault on police, riot, harassment, and related offenses.” Six other “youths” were arrested for fighting at other locations near the school on Friday as well.

After the incident was over, Chitwood restated police commitment to getting kids home safe after school and said, “I can’t emphasize it enough, but the majority of these kids are decent kids.”

A Columbus police CRT officer says he was doing the job he was sworn to do when he came across a shooting victim who needed life-saving action.

Officer Jason Brammer has been with the force 16 years. He also served with the Army as a combat lifesaver.

Officer Brammer says he didn’t see combat in the military, but his training there and through the police academy helped him last Wednesday when he and his partner, Officer Baase, came across two shooting victims. “There was no hesitation, there was nothing more than I can’t stand here and watch this gentleman die when there’s something I can do about it,” said Officer Brammer.

Officer Brammer says they were patrolling in southeast Columbus when they heard a call dispatched about shots fired and a car leaving the area. They spotted the car matching the description slammed up against a tree on Kimberly Parkway.

Police say a man and woman had just been shot and robbed while trying to buy cell phones for sale on the OfferUp app. Turns out the couple had tried to drive themselves to the hospital and crashed.

“Two people were slumped over on the inside,” said Officer Brammer.

Brammer says the woman in the passenger seat was hit in the leg and her husband had been shot in his right arm. “I thought he’d been shot all over for the amount of blood loss I saw,” said Officer Brammer.

Officer Brammer says his partner tossed him a tourniquet he kept in his pants pocket.

“We had to do something because he probably wasn’t going to last very long,” said Officer Brammer.

The tourniquet was bought by the Columbus Police Foundation. It’s a non-profit that spent about $25,000 last summer to make sure officers had tourniquets on hand for themselves or others.

“We were able to provide roughly 500 tourniquets to front line police officers,” said Harry Trombitas

Officer Brammer is a 16 year veteran with CPD. He doesn’t call himself a hero. His job put him in the right place at the right time.

The victim might think otherwise. “He said I love you guys which was nice to hear that,” said Officer Brammer.

We could not reach the victims for comment.

The Columbus Police Foundation accepts donations from private people and corporations for programs like this.
