Jose Tellez was enjoying a Saturday afternoon, decorating his house for Christmas with his daughter. The day ended with Tellez becoming another statistic in Chicago violence. Two men jumped out of a car and bludgeoned Tellez in the head with unknown blunt objects, before taking off.

You read tragic stories, and there are lines that stick with you. The Chicago Sun-Times wrote about Tellez’s neighbor hearing his daughter scream. When the neighbor ran across the street she saw Tellez bleeding from the head, quote, “with Christmas lights still clutched in his hand.”
