SOTG 230 - Oath Keepers and Open Carry

What is the difference between and armed Oath Keeper and an Open Carry activist? Is there any real difference in the two? Sadly, those who should know better are making the moral equivalent to the moron standing in Starbucks with an SKS and a US Army veteran sworn to uphold the US Constitution by oath. Paul has a few words to say on that subject.

The tax slaves and their slave masters in the United Kingdom just will not stop the insanity. We have even more Anarchy in the UK for you. This time a three year old boy and his toy have the weak and spineless tinkling in their panties. Our SWAT Fuel Warrior of the Week wants to discuss defensive ammo and we are happy to oblige.

The Minions got in trouble again. This time, they got a three-year old boy in trouble with them. Dublin Airport Authority (DDA) officers in Ireland took away the toddler’s Minion’s Fart Blaster toy gun over the weekend during a pre-flight security check screening.

Little Leo Fitzpatrick was travelling home to Nottingham, England with his mother after a trip to visit her family in Dublin, Ireland. His Minions Fart Blaster created a stink at the Dublin Airport when it showed up on an x-ray machine screening his backpack.

Leo’s 25-year old single pregnant mother, Daire Fitzpatrick, was asked by DDA officers to empty the backpack at which time they experienced the plastic megaphone toy which lights up, makes “fart noises,” and releases a banana scent when the trigger gets pulled. Officials said the gun posed a security threat. So they seized it.

A spokesman for Dublin Airport spokesman released a statement saying, “Toy guns and replica guns are on the prohibited items list and we urge people to check this before they travel. We don’t make the rules but we apply the rules consistently; anything that is a replica gun with a trigger mechanism on it is listed as a prohibited item.”

Little Leo was given the toy one day earlier. It was a present from his grandfather. Daire Fitzpatrick told the Daily Mail she had never seen her son smile so much. “This gun was his life for the last 24 hours. He had become so attached to it and would really hysterically laugh when he pressed the button,” said Daire. “If you look at it it’s just ridiculous it could be considered a weapon. I mean, would you shake with fear if I pointed a Minions Fart Blaster at you?”

Mom says the DDA official even admitted his own child was bearing the same Arms at home. She says her three-year old was devastated, but polite. He was upset and didn’t understand why he had to “share” his new toy with the man he did not know.

DDA apologized to the family and said they would hold the boy’s Minions Fart Blaster toy gun until the family could return to collect it. The family decided to leave the megaphone in Ireland and purchased a new one for Leo when they got home.

From chrishernandezauthor.com:

Doctors have a guiding principle: “First, do no harm.” Their most important job is to not cause more damage. “Given an existing problem, it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good.” This is a good life principle. If I don’t know how to change a timing belt, I probably shouldn’t take my engine apart and just hope I can figure it out. If I don’t know electrical wiring, it’s probably a bad idea to rewire my house on my own. Because if I do those things, I’ll cause more harm than good.

Simple enough, right? Apparently not. Far too many of my fellow gun rights supporters don’t understand this principle. One particular type likes to dress in garish clothing, grab a weapon and run toward the nearest camera whenever they see an opportunity to “support gun rights”. These gun owners don’t help the situation; instead, they only manage to show the entire world they’re nothing more than poorly or completely untrained attention whores.

The gun rights version of “First, do no harm” is “Don’t make shit worse.” These particular gun rights supporters are making shit worse.

Recently several “Oath Keepers” decided to make shit worse in Ferguson, Missouri. Their arrival generated a flood of negative publicity, reinforced the widespread perception that we gun owners are unstable lunatics looking for a fight, and heightened already sky-high tensions between police and protestors. According to the Washington Post, the Oath Keepers said they were in Ferguson to “protect someone who worked for the Web site Infowars.com.” Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me that adding heavily-armed conspiracy theorists into a volatile near-riot doesn’t exactly help.

From oathkeepers.org:

Tuesday, August 11, 2015, was quite the day for Oath Keepers.  On Monday the 10th, four of our members had served as body guards at Ferguson, Missouri, for a news crew from InfoWars dot com. The whole of the Oath Keepers organization did not pile in and clog the streets. Only four Oath Keepers were working that detail, as a favor to journalists who were concerned about their safety.

I say, “only four”, just to denote that the organization did not muster forces for another security detail. The four were acting locally, at the request of InfoWars, and were doing so because there had already been trouble for some journalists in Ferguson. I say, “only four”, but that is not to understate the highly professional work our four Oath Keepers did there. Oath Keepers national is proud of the quiet professionalism, cool-headed methodology, and expert deportment of those four Missouri Oath Keepers.

Led by Sam Andrews, these brave men carried out their mission, and the journalists they were guarding were kept safe in the midst of yet another Ferguson, Missouri, riot. At the core of Sam’s and his pals’ mission were journalists, so let’s talk a bit about journalism in America. I would like to share something from the  U.S. Congressional Record of February 9, 1917, page 2947.  One may search for this quite easily and bring up many results, but I like the simplicity of how the good folks over at Mindfully.org posted it.
