SOTG 335 – Go Team Honey Badger: 10 year old Girl Fights back against Kidnappers

A ten year old girl in Australia displayed the spirit of the Honey Badger when she fought back against two grown men attempting to kidnap her. We are happy that she did not take the “expert” advice to not fight back and be a good witness.

Compare the success of a young girl fighting back with a fancy new “panic button” that women are encouraged to wear like jewelry. With the push of a button the police and loved ones will know where to find your body.

From www.abc.net.au:

A 10-year-old girl has fought off two men who tried to kidnap her as she was walking along a road in Sydney’s south-west, police say.

Investigators were told two men in a van tried to grab the girl at Ashcroft yesterday afternoon.

NSW Police spokeswoman Ainslie Blackstone told 702 ABC Sydney it “must have been a scary afternoon” for the child.

“She’s 10 years old, walking home just after five o’clock yesterday afternoon on Sutton Road at Ashcroft, and she saw a white van drive up a laneway nearby her,” Ms Blackstone said.

“The male passenger tried to start a conversation with her, and then the van sort of continued driving, stopping at the footpath a second time.

“They then got out of the car and grabbed this girl around the mouth and arm.

“She bit and kicked at them and they lost their grip on her and she ran away.”

Police seek men with C and COT tattoos

Ms Blackstone said the girl began to make her way to a friend’s house before deciding to go home instead.

“The van continued to follow her home and then stayed parked out the front for a little bit before then taking off,” she said.

The van was described as white with a black stripe running down the side, rusted wheel rims and only two windows.

The first man was described as of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, about 180 to 185cm tall, bald, clean shaven, with blue eyes and a large build.

He was wearing a red t-shirt and black shorts, and had a tattoo of the letter C on the back of his neck.

The second man was described as of dark complexion, about 30 years old, 170cm tall, with short curly black hair, brown eyes and a thin build.

He was wearing a long-sleeved red-and-blue-striped shirt and dark-blue tracksuit pants, and had a tattoo featuring the letters COT outlined in red ink down one arm.

From www.littlethings.com:

Violence against women is an extremely serious problem, and it leaves many asking the question, “What can we do about it?”

According to the Boston Globe, a study of New England’s largest colleges found a 40% increase in “forcible sex offenses” between 2012 and 2013. This seems to indicate that the problem is getting worse, not better.

But fortunately — like the mom who invented cool hearing aids for her deaf son — there are amazing people out there who are focused on working towards solutions, like Yasmine Mustafa and Anthony Gold.

Together, they have created ROAR, a company set out to fight violence against women. Their first mission? To create an emergency alert device to fend off attackers.

Known as Athena, this device can be worn as fashionable jewelry, but it’s certainly more than meets the eye. Named for the Greek goddess of justice, strength, wisdom, and courage, Athena “helps empower women to live their lives boldly, without fear.”

LittleThings conducted an exclusive interview with co-founder and CEO of ROAR, Yasmine Mustafa. Her work is vitally important, and her device is an absolutely brilliant way for women to try to stop a violent attack.

Would you ever wear the Athena? Be sure to watch the video below to learn more, then let us know your thoughts in the comments!
