During a time when you might think the free exchange of information is critical, Facebook is censoring Nazi History. For those who say “Facebook is a private company, that can do whatever it likes.” Keep in mind that Zuckerberg and Facebook took taxpayer money, to the tune of $374,168,107 for their “private company”.

This short article is not meant to reignite the debate as to whether or not F-book is a private publisher. It is not an argument about if they are free to censor with impunity or a public utility who must follow non-discriminatory guidelines. This review establishes the fact that Facebook is indeed, deliberately running cover for one of the most evil regimes in World History.

Nazi History Arbeit Macht Frei

Those 3 words are a warning from the past.

Those Who Ignore History are Doomed to Repeat It.

This June will mark thirty-five years since I graduated from high school. Looking back at my high school career through the eyes of experience, I can genuinely say that I had some fantastic teachers. One of those was Mr. Porter, a history teacher. Mr. Porter’s specialty was American History, which I took for two semesters my Junior year. Later, during my Senior year, I took a one semester class from Mr. Porter. That class was called “US at War”, a history of the United States involvement in World War II.

During the US at War course, we learned about the situation that led up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. We studied the rise to power of Adolf Hilter and the National Socialist German Workers Party, abbreviated Nazi. We learned about the major battles, D-Day, and, of course, the discovery of the Nazi Concentration Camps. These facilities became extermination camps for millions of Jews. They also became the final resting place for other people whom the Nazi Party deemed to be less than human or as “unreliable persons”.

Nazi History – Arbeit Macht Frei.

During our study of what Hitler and his cohorts dubbed “the final solution”, we learned that at the entrances to these concentration camps the words “Arbeit Macht Frei” were displayed prominently. The translation of the phrase from German means, “work sets you free” or “work will make you free”. Casual history buffs remember the Arbeit Macht Frei sign at Auschwitz.

The truth of the matter is that the phrase was not used just to deceive those arriving at Auschwitz. Arbeit Macht Frei was mounted at the front gates of the Dachau, Gross-Rosen, Sachsenhausen and Theresienstadt camps. During the time since our discovery of the genocide committed by the German Socialist regime, the use of the phrase “Arbeit Macht Frei” has been a watchword, a cautionary phrase. The remains of signs that read “Arbeit Macht Frei” are serious and grim reminders. A sort of “Canary in the Coal Mine” for what can happen when a people blindly follow along with whatever their government tells them.

“Do not question our authority. We want what is best for you. Please step onto the train.”

Censorship and “Hate Speech”. Should Nazi History be Forgotten?

Recently, I discovered, on a Facebook post, a story about the Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri “demanding” that churches keep a list of names and personal information of church members and surrender that list to the government. This should be alarming to all Americans. Keeping lists for the state has always led to tyranny and persecution. Not just in Nazi Germany either, but everywhere it has been done.

In the comment section of that post I inserted the words “Arbeit Macht Frei”. Moments later, my account was restricted. When I dug deeper, I was informed by the censorship bot that my comment “Arbeit Macht Frei” had violated their Community Standards on Hate Speech. We are not allowed to remind others of Nazi History? This grim reminder is somehow hate speech?

Yes, according to Facebook, using three German words in succession, a decades old warning, cautionary phrase, is now “hate speech”. My primary question is, “hate speech” aimed at whom? Just who is F-book trying to protect from this horrible hate speech? Are they trying to protect the legacy of the National Socialist German Workers Party?

Arbeit Macht Frei is a direct and deliberate reference to the lies and deception of the Nazi Party used against people they planned to exterminate in death camps. It is, in fact, a part of Nazi History. Surely, Zuckerburg and his F-book platform are not trying to cover up the history of Nazi death camps. Or are they? Who, besides Nazis and National Socialists, could be offended by the use of those three words?

Nazi History Paul Banned

We must learn from the past, not censor it.

Bots and Algorithms are Built by Humans.

Before the ink is dry on this page, I can hear the reasonable apologists saying “it was a bot, an algorithm that censored your account, not a person.” To that I would respond, computer bots and algorithms are programmed by humans. The humans who programmed those bots were instructed to do so by their supervisors. Those supervisors were given direction by Zuckerburg and his collaborators.

One or more humans told the Facebook Hate Speech bot to flag the words “Arbeit Macht Frei”. That was not an accident. Nazi History is something they are trying to erase. Humans decided that Facebook users should not be exposed to those three German words typed in succession. Are we to forget? Are we to repeat that same history again? One has to wonder, if a person using the German language Facebook platform typed in the English words “work sets you free” if the F-book bots would flag that as hate speech.

Whether they are a private publisher or public utility, facts are facts. In this case, the fact is clear cut. Facebook is running cover for the history of the Nazi Party. Who else in the entire world could be offended by the reference to “Arbeit Macht Frei” other than National Socialists and their supporters?
