(Photo Source: Bryan Pace/New York Daily News)

The Reuters news agency organized and sponsored a gathering of “Gun Safety Experts” to meet in New York City to consider the “epidemic of gun violence” in America.

Professor Paul will consider just whom it is that qualifies as a Gun Safety Expert in the eyes of Reuters and what they had to offer.

Our SWAT Fuel Warrior of the Week has a question about skill maintenance and range drills. This is a good time to remind everyone about the One Box Workout skill maintenance drill.

From www.studentofthegun.com/blog:

I met Dr. Dan Olesnicky a few years ago at the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show. We were introduced by a mutual friend whose opinions I value highly. Dan told me about his company, SWAT Fuel, and gave me the five minute run down.

Dr. Dan explained that SWAT Fuel was designed for “occupational athletes”, a term not often used in common conversation. Occupational athletes are essentially any people who need to get or be physical as a part their job; cops, firemen, paramedics, soldiers, Marines, etc. Naturally, professional athletes can benefit from SWAT Fuel as well, but they tend to be instinctively more attuned to fitness and sports nutrition than the average occupational athlete.

Jarrad, my eldest son, was with me when I met Dan O and my first thought was that he (Jarrad) would benefit more from the products than I would. Dan gave us each a bottle of 9mm SWAT Fuel (fat burner in red capsules). We parted ways and followed up with each other occasionally after that.

To be completely honest, my initial interest in SWAT Fuel was the belief it would help Jarrad to cut weight when he was preparing for a fight. Jarrad has fought professionally in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and boxed. Pro fight events require their competitors to “make weight” for a designated division. I really did not think SWAT Fuel would be something for me.

Nearly a year went by and I ended up on the telephone with Dr. Dan. At the time I had come to the realization that I was carrying around too much weight and had recently begun a new exercise regime. However, I had hit a wall or a plateau if you will. It seemed that no matter what I did I was stuck and I was getting discouraged and frustrated.

From www.mirror.co.uk:

Three gunmen are being hunted by police in Munich after five people were shot dead in and outside a shopping centre.

The area around the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum (OEZ) shopping mall in the centre of the German city has been sealed off as the gunman is tracked down.

Footage showing a man firing at passers by outside the shopping centre has appeared online, as has a second showing what appears to be another gunman on the mall’s roof.

The first video captures the moment a gunman opened fire on innocent bystanders outside a packed shopping centre in Munich.

The busy street is plunged into chaos when a man wearing a cap and sunglasses opens fire with what appears to be a handgun outside a McDonald’s.

Terrified bystanders, including the unnamed witness filming the scene, flee in fear as a barrage of at least 18 shots can be heard ringing out.

Six people have been killed and many more have been injured at around 6pm tonight, according to German public broadcaster BR.

Police helicopters have been seen circling over Munich as armed police hunt ‘at least three’ gunmen on the loose.

A Reuters photographer has reported seeing a sniper from one of the helicopters above the mall, according to Bild.

Footage has also been posted online as has video filmed by terrified shoppers inside the mall. One shows police officers with guns drawn looking for the person or people behind the shootings.

German media have reported that there have been multiple fatalities, though police are yet to confirm this.

Shoppers are believed to still be trapped in the mall as police try to track down the armed man.

TV images showed dozens of emergency vehicles outside the
mall.

The shopping center is next to the Munich Olympic stadium, where the Palestinian militant group Black September took 11 Israeli athletes hostage and eventually killed them during the 1972 Olympic Games

Friday’s attack took place a week after a 17-year-old asylum-seeker wounded passengers on a German train in an axe
rampage claimed by Islamic State.

Police have released a statement warning people to stay in their homes, off the road and away from the OEZ shopping centre.

Cops say it is currently unclear who is behind the ‘shootout.’

At least one person is reported to have been killed in the incident with ten injured.

Video from the scene of the attack is apparently being widely spread on IS-related Twitter accounts, although it is currently unclear whether the attack is terror-related.

There are reports that the gunman has fled into the city’s underground network, although this has not been confirmed.

Pictures are emerging from the scene showing people fleeing and what appears to be a body on the floor.

A police helicopter and what appears to be military policemen are at the scene.

A Munich police spokeswoman said that no details were immediately available on injuries or who was responsible for the shooting.

A statement on their Twitter account said: “At the moment, we have a large police operation on the Acharya. Please avoid the area around the shopping centre.”

An official at the Munich Olympia Shopping Centre declined comment, saying only, “We are experiencing a problem.”

From www.nydailynews.com:

As Republican leaders gathered Monday in Cleveland under the banner “Make America Safe Again,” a panel of experts got together in New York to try to show them how.

The first step toward safety is the kind of responsible gun control that could have prevented the deadly attack on cops in Dallas and Baton Rouge and the rampage that killed children and their teachers in Sandy Hook, the experts said.

“The biggest problem is the NRA,” said Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said. “The NRA is very good at throwing false issues out and confusing people.”

Molloy was joined at a Reuters forum at the news agency’s Times Square headquarters by former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Nicole Hockley, whose son, Dylan, was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

Before a backdrop of Daily News front pages highlighting America’s violence epidemic, the speakers recalled the deadly incidents that have put the country on edge.

Hickenlooper signed into law limits on high capacity magazines after 12 people were gunned down in an Aurora movie theater in 2012.

Thompson said that the country is focused on mass shootings, urban violence is still a major problem across the country.

“The problem we’re facing is we have these states down south that have weak gun laws.”

“As we’re sitting here now, there’s someone driving up I-95 with a trunk full of guns.”
