SOTG 440 - Germany tell People Stockpile Food

SOTG 440 – Germany tell People Stockpile Food

Following up on last week’s report of the the German government telling the people it could not protect them, we have a new story from Deutschland.

Now the government is advising the German people to stockpile survival food. One might wonder what the impetus for this move might be.

During our SWAT Fuel Fitness Talk, Jarrad considers that it is not enough to identify the problem, you need to actually apply the solution.

In other international news, the crumbling and starving nation state of Venezuela is cracking down even harder on private ownership of firearms and ammunition.

From www.studentofthegun.com/blog:

I met Dr. Dan Olesnicky a few years ago at the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show. We were introduced by a mutual friend whose opinions I value highly. Dan told me about his company, SWAT Fuel, and gave me the five minute run down.

Dr. Dan explained that SWAT Fuel was designed for “occupational athletes”, a term not often used in common conversation. Occupational athletes are essentially any people who need to get or be physical as a part their job; cops, firemen, paramedics, soldiers, Marines, etc. Naturally, professional athletes can benefit from SWAT Fuel as well, but they tend to be instinctively more attuned to fitness and sports nutrition than the average occupational athlete.

Jarrad, my eldest son, was with me when I met Dan O and my first thought was that he (Jarrad) would benefit more from the products than I would. Dan gave us each a bottle of 9mm SWAT Fuel (fat burner in red capsules). We parted ways and followed up with each other occasionally after that.

To be completely honest, my initial interest in SWAT Fuel was the belief it would help Jarrad to cut weight when he was preparing for a fight. Jarrad has fought professionally in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and boxed. Pro fight events require their competitors to “make weight” for a designated division. I really did not think SWAT Fuel would be something for me.

Nearly a year went by and I ended up on the telephone with Dr. Dan. At the time I had come to the realization that I was carrying around too much weight and had recently begun a new exercise regime. However, I had hit a wall or a plateau if you will. It seemed that no matter what I did I was stuck and I was getting discouraged and frustrated.

During my phone call with Dan I admitted to him that while I encouraged Jarrad to use the SWAT Fuel fat burner for pre-fight training, I was not really using it for myself. Dan O inquired about my multivitamin intake and I admitted that I was not taking any. Very patiently, he gave me advice about the importance of a multivitamin for someone on the far side of 40 and who was trying to get into better shape and drop weight. I ended up ordering the SWAT Fuel 9mm +P (Endurance Formula in blue capsules) and the 40 Cal multivitamins.

From www.reuters.com:

For the first time since the end of the Cold War, the German government plans to tell citizens to stockpile food and water in case of an attack or catastrophe, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper reported on Sunday.

Germany is currently on high alert after two Islamist attacks and a shooting rampage by a mentally unstable teenager last month. Berlin announced measures earlier this month to spend considerably more on its police and security forces and to create a special unit to counter cyber crime and terrorism.

“The population will be obliged to hold an individual supply of food for ten days,” the newspaper quoted the government’s “Concept for Civil Defence” – which has been prepared by the Interior Ministry – as saying.

The paper said a parliamentary committee had originally commissioned the civil defense strategy in 2012.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said the plan would be discussed by the cabinet on Wednesday and presented by the minister that afternoon. He declined to give any details on the content.

People will be required to stockpile enough drinking water to last for five days, according to the plan, the paper said.

The 69-page report does not see an attack on Germany’s territory, which would require a conventional style of national defense, as likely.

However, the precautionary measures demand that people “prepare appropriately for a development that could threaten our existence and cannot be categorically ruled out in the future,” the paper cited the report as saying.

It also mentions the necessity of a reliable alarm system, better structural protection of buildings and more capacity in the health system, the paper said.

A further priority should be more support of the armed forces by civilians, it added.

Germany’s Defence Minister said earlier this month the country lay in the “crosshairs of terrorism” and pressed for plans for the military to train more closely with police in preparing for potential large-scale militant attacks.

From www.conservativereview.com:

A recent report out of crime-ridden Venezuela is a reminder to gun owners of the importance of remaining watchful and putting pro-gun politicians in office.

Over 2,000 shotguns and pistols were destroyed in a city square in Venezuela’s capital city of Caracas as part of a new gun control push. The event marked “the renewal of efforts to disarm Venezuelans, through a combination of seizures and a voluntary program to swap guns for electrical goods.”

The government went as far as using laser technology to register ammunition, since much of the gun violence in Venezuela is perpetrated using government weapons that were either stolen from police departments and military depots, or sold to gangs by corrupt government officials. But stripping Venezuelan citizens of their ability to protect themselves will do nothing to address the violence.

This is, of course, the government pretending it is doing something about crime, as if it is ordinary citizens who are committing crimes in the streets. Criminals did not turn their guns in for destruction, nor were they affected by a gun ban.

The government under socialist president/dictator Hugo Chavez entirely banned the civilian ownership of firearms and ammunition in 2012, after a period of amnesty during which people could turn in weapons. Naturally, crime continued to increase. As usual, however, the purpose of a gun ban was not about preventing crime but consolidating power. Chavez was just more blatant about it.

Even though Chavez’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela no longer has exclusive power, his plans to disarm the people of Venezuela continue to live on.

Americans should take note of this as the November elections approach. Hillary Clinton has been an adamant opponent of liberty and gun rights for decades. We can expect her presidency to be the active culmination of that hatred of our traditions if she is elected.

Democrats are fond of saying that gun owners’ fear of President Obama and a potential President Clinton are exaggerated; that Democrats haven’t taken come for anyone’s guns. While that’s true for the most part, it’s not due to a lack of desire on the part of liberal politicians. Rather, Democrats have failed in their efforts largely because of a lack of political support.

Attempts to put through legislation are quickly ended by the Republican majority and the few pro-gun Democrats that remain. Politicians know that voters will scrutinize every move they make and will remember at the polls.

Donald Trump speaks in favor of the Second Amendment and was endorsed by the National Rifle Association, but in the past he was in favor of an assault weapons ban, waiting periods and depriving people on the No-Fly list of due process. As much as he may claim to support gun rights today, it is hard to gauge how firm a supporter of liberty he would be if he is elected. There can be little question Trump would be a more reliable friend to gun rights than Clinton, but even the most reliable politician should not be taken for granted.

Both candidates will have to be watched closely if they are elected. Even more importantly, voters will have to choose wisely among their senatorial and congressional candidates in the voting booth this November and hold them accountable after voting has concluded. As Jefferson is reputed to have said, “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”
