SOTG 241 - Case of Beer Challenge

We all know the Four Universal Firearms Safety Rules and most of us can recite them verbatim. However, it is also true the “familiarity breeds contempt”. The more comfortable we become around firearms, the greater the likelihood that we will begin to disregard the rules.

Professor Paul was introduced to the “Case of Beer Challenge” many years ago and he takes a moment to explain how beer can be used as a motivator for safe gun handling. We have a Public School Psychological Terrorism update for you from the People’s Republik of Kalifornia. Also, what is the best gun for a new shooter; revolver or semi-auto? We ponder that question and much more on SOTG Radio.

The first San Francisco elementary school to make bathrooms gender neutral has proudly removed the circles, triangles, and stick figure signs from the kindergarten and first-grade bathrooms that delineate the differences between the sexes.

Principal Sam Bass of Miraloma Elementary said the change at the beginning of the school year was prompted by the needs of six to eight students who are outside calling themselves simply boys or girls, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Bathrooms for children older than first grade will be altered in coming years, even outside bathrooms that have multiple stalls.

Bass told the Chronicle, “There’s no need to make them gender-specific anymore,” adding, “One parent said, ‘So, you’re just making it like it is at home.’”

In July 2013, California passed a law requiring public K-12 schools to allow transgender students to pick whichever restrooms they wanted. San Francisco passed similar legislation in 2003. The Berkeley Unified School District boasts one gender-neutral bathroom at each school.

The Chronicle reported one first-grade boy at Miraloma prefers long hair and female clothing, while another first-grade boy wears boys and girls clothes, including gold lamé stretch pants.
