SOTG 263 - Be a Man!

In a continuing effort to destroy the foundation of the American family and society, the Huffington Post has decided to release a propaganda film questioning what masculinity means. We know what it means and have an answer from them.

Two “Go Team” moments, one in Detroit and one in Illinois show us that there are still men in America who are willing to fight to defend the innocent. A 75 year old Army veteran showed a 19 year old punk the meaning of courage and we cannot applaud him loudly enough. Lastly, someone in Merry Ole England has got a fright, tune in to find out why.

From www.foxnews.com:

A former Army vet is recovering from stab wounds after putting himself between 16 terrified children and a knife-wielding teen determined to kill at an Illinois public library this week.

“He actually ran into the room yelling, ‘I’m going to kill some people!’” James Vernon told the Pekin Daily Times Thursday.

Vernon, 75– a retired Caterpillar technology worker and Army vet—is recovering from surgery at his home in Morton, Illinois. He was leading a chess club meeting with local kids at the Morton library Tuesday afternoon when Dustin Brown, 19, burst into the room holding a knife in each hand and threatening the children.

“I failed my mission to kill everyone,” Brown told police Thursday, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit that accompanied formal charges, including attempted murder.

Vernon described the two knives as “hunting types” with “fixed blades about 5 inches” long.

The 16 frightened children – ranging in age from 7 to 13– scurried under tables in the library’s conference room as Vernon stood in front of Brown.

Brown appeared angry as he focused his attention on the children. Vernon kept his cool and distracted Brown to give the kids a chance to escape.

“I tried to talk to him. I tried to settle him down,” Vernon told the Pekin Daily Times. “I didn’t, but I did deflect his attention” from the kids “and calmed him a bit. I asked him if he was from Morton, did he go to high school. I asked what his problem was. He said his life sucks. That’s a quote.”

As Vernon spoke, he inched closer to Brown. “He backed away when I’d get closer.” With a few steps, Vernon put himself between Brown and the conference room door.

“I gave them the cue to get the heck out of there, and, boy, they did that! Quick, like rabbits,” Vernon said.

After all the children fled, the knife-fight training Vernon learned in the Army five decades ago kicked in. Brown slashed from the right towards Vernon, who blocked the blade with his left hand.

“I should have hit his wrist. That’s how you’re trained, but it’s been half a century,” Vernon recalled. “First rule of combat: Be fast and vigorous,” said Vernon, who never served in combat.

The veteran’s medium build was enough to overcome Brown. “I grabbed him and threw… Somehow he wound up on a table” with the knife in his left hand pinned under his body, Vernon said. “I hit him on the (right) collarbone with my closed hand” until Brown dropped that knife.

Vernon said he was “bleeding pretty good,” but managed to hold Brown until a library employee removed the knives and helped to keep Brown pinned until police and paramedics arrived.

At the time of the incident, Brown was free on bond while facing prosecution charges of possessing child pornography. He told police he’d been planning for two weeks to kill people and then himself, according to an affidavit.

Had he brought a gun instead, “It would’ve been a different story,” Vernon said.

Brown was ordered held on $800,000 bond pending a Nov. 5 court appearance. He’s charged with attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated battery to a person over age 60, and burglary for entering the library with intent to commit a crime.

Vernon won his “90 seconds of combat” with Brown, “but I felt like I lost the war,” he chuckled. His injuries include two cut arteries and a tendon on his left hand from blocking Brown’s knife swipe.

A Detroit church service turned tragic today when a man with a brick went after the pastor, but likely didn’t anticipate what would follow: the pastor pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and fatally shot the man, police said.

“They knew each other and had some type of problem before,” Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt said of the pastor and the victim. “When I got there, the body had already been moved. The pastor was in custody. We had the gun.”

The shooting happened at about 1:45 p.m., shortly after a 1:30 p.m. service got underway at the City of God storefront church on Grand River Avenue near Lahser, Dolunt said. The man with the brick never actually made it into the church, but went after the pastor in the vestibule, he said.

The pastor, whom Dolunt did not have a name for, responded with gunfire, shooting the man multiple times, including in the chest. The man died a short while later at Botsford Hospital.

According to Dolunt, a previous police report had been filed against the church intruder involving threats. He didn’t have further details. The pastor remains in police custody as investigators try to piece together what happened and interview church members.

“It’s tragic,” Dolunt said, noting that church violence is not new to Detroit, or anywhere else.

Today’s shooting comes four months after a gunman opened fire in a church in Charleston, S.C., killing nine people. Closer to home, in July 2014 an off-duty Detroit police officer who was working as a church security guard shot and killed an ax-wielding man at the Citadel Praise of Church. In 2012, Pastor Marvin Winans, a member of the famous gospel singing group, was carjacked and robbed at a Detroit intersection.

Detroit’s religious leaders have often been at the forefront of denouncing violence, though they haven’t said much about whether pastors, priests or clergymen should carry guns themselves.

In July, following a wave of fatal shootings that had hit Detroit at the start of summer, several faith leaders united to issue a plea to the community to help stop the violence.

“The countless killings. The lives being lost continually. We can’t have a summer of killing,” the Rev. Eddie Connor Jr. of Open Door Ministries International said during a meeting with local religious leaders. “ We can’t have a summer where we’re burying or having these young lives being exterminated.”

The Rev. Norman Thomas of the Sacred Heart Church also weighed in, denouncing gun violence.

“The common good is the value that supersedes all other things. So when we witness our brothers and sisters who decide to settle arguments, who take revenge against other people by killing them, we have to stand up and speak out,” Thomas said in July. “We hope that those who are witnesses to these kinds of things will be able to say, ‘My loyalty is to all the people, my silence is intolerable, I’ve got to do something’.

The local police and local media responded after a man in Fossgate, England made a startling discovery outside of his music shop. According to the York Press, Tim Stark was unloading items in front of his shop when he saw something in a puddle back in 2011.

It turned out the object was a .22 caliber round. Stark immediately called the local police and local media, both of whom responded.

It’s a good thing it wasn’t connected to any investigations, you know, seeing as how it was an unfired bullet which has obviously never done anything except exist.
